This is from a photo I took of the park located across the street from my husband’s boyhood home. When Bob was around six years of age, he set fire to the kitchen curtains while playing with matches. His mother packed him a bag and told him to go sit on the bench in the park and wait for the firemen to come get him. He sat there most of the day until his sister was sent to tell him to come home for dinner. He never played with matches again.
This quilt contains more commercial fabrics than hand painted. The hand drawn and painted components are the little boy and the park bench, the lamppost and the house in the background. I used fabric glue and stitched the different elements using a raw edge technique. Fabric paint, fabric markers and pastel oil sticks were used to complete the details. It was quilted on my domestic machine.
