Inspired by a beautiful doorway in France.
The piece is entirely hand painted with fabric paint. The background was painted a fairly neutral color and I deliberately left the center of the fabric lighter in tone so there would be a lot of contrast when I painted the doorway and the surrounding bricks. Then the details were painted – the door, bricks, flowers and the trees. Machine quilting was used around the details to provide dimension. The quilt sandwich was then stretched around a cotton canvas frame typically used in a “gallery wrap” presentation. The entire piece was sprayed with a fine art varnish to protect it from dust and fading.
